ABOUT FREDERICK FAMILY DOG TRAINING
OUR STORY
We are a family owned Iowa business that strives to bring empowerment and customized dog training right into the homes of the individuals we serve.
We have the unique understanding of being both dog owners and dog trainers, including within the service dog world. We did not start out as dog trainers - we started out as parents of child who had a need for a service dog. When seeing the incredible ability dogs have to bring joy, love, comfort, happiness, and empowerment to our home, we knew we had to provide a way to allow every home to have that, whether it be a family dog, A service dog, or a therapy dog out in the community!
Kellie has been mentored by one of the best trainers in the industry, Kat Ross, who has developed many programs for therapy dogs, service dogs, trainers, and individual dogs.
Through our passion for brining customized and affordable dog training to the community, we have been able to work with a vast variety of dogs in varying capacities. It's an honor to bring therapy dogs into organizations, facilities and homes, a true joy to help a family in need of a service dog, and true goodness to work with families and individuals with their family dog!
HOW WE TRAIN
Just like each individual person is unique, each individual dogs is unique. It is an absolute necessity you are receiving customized dog training. Our goal is to empower YOU to have the tools and training you need to have the dog of your dreams.
We do not have a facility or building, rather, we meet our clients right in their own homes, neighborhoods, and communities!
While we do love facility and classroom style training, we believe that there is a huge gap between what people learn at a dog class and how to implement that in real life situations and homes. Dogs are contextual learners, meaning they learn best and retain more in their own, natural environment.
We are trained in a wide variety of training methods, but here at FFDT we utilize positive reinforcement, vocal correctors, and voice/verbal commands and hand signals.
We also believe it is important for the whole family to be involved with training and use a whole family approach. Family is important to us, and we know it's important to you!
All lessons are filmed in short clips and videos, and provided to you to reference back to again and again. You will also receive an emailed notes and homework/things to work on document after every lesson for reference and review.

Kellie also teaches Adapted Needs Seminary, and directs the junior choir at Homeschool Choir of Central Iowa. She enjoys being a homeschool mom, reading, writing, participating in music and sports, and is a boxer - both for fitness and competitively. She truly loves all people, and has a heart for service.

Terrell has a fulltime job at PepsiCo, but that doesn't stop him from being the world's best support, best husband, and best dad ever. Terrell has a passion for cycling, and loves to build bikes, ride bikes, and race bikes! He is a true jack-of-all-trades, and can fix anything, make anything, and do anything. He has a very welcoming persona, and loves to interact with people. Though he misses the mountains of the West, he loves the trails and outdoors here in Iowa, too!

These kids are the best Junior Trainers! They are amazing kids, and fantastic junior trainers, helping dogs and families learn in a unique way.
They are incredible lesson supports and are often there to help train dogs right alongside their mom, both in public and in home!

The FFDT dogs are also all therapy dogs. In addition to therapy dog work, Luna is a currently serving service dog

Charlie is our titled AKC Trick Dog, and a retired therapy dog, River is training to be our daughter's next service dog, and is a wonderful training assistant. Lastly, Clifford is our youngest pup, and is a "super buddy" for our son, Oliver.

Rosie is the dog who started everything at Frederick Family Dog Training LLC, Service Dogs Iowa, and Therapy Dogs Iowa.
Rosie was our daughter's first service dog, and changed our lives for good in so many ways. She not only served Lexi so faithfully during her time as a service dog, but also brought much joy as a therapy dog. Rosie taught countless puppies and dogs, changed the hearts of many. She passed away in 2025, surrounded by her family and lays to rest here Iowa, while her spirit lives on.
